The story behind Find My Goldfish
Find My Goldfish started as a bit of a gag — someone bought a slightly silly domain name and had to do something with it. But underneath the joke is a genuinely soft spot: goldfish rarely stick around forever, and for a lot of kids, a goldfish swimming off to a better pond is their very first brush with loss.
We wanted a gentle, playful way for younger fish-owners to feel like their goldfish had gone somewhere, rather than just... stopped. So type in a name, hit "Locate," and we'll pretend to work out exactly where they ended up. (Spoiler: nowhere in particular. It's all made up, every single time.)
Find My Goldfish is a just-for-fun website. It generates a random spot on the map for whatever name you type in. There's no real tracking, no real data, and no real goldfish were involved in building it. It's a small, silly comfort — nothing more.
If a child in your life has recently lost a goldfish (or any pet), this site is meant as a light, gentle bit of imagination — not a replacement for talking about what happened. Kids often process loss best when grown-ups are honest with them, in age-appropriate ways, and give them space to ask questions or feel sad.
